Uncertainty surrounds extent of injury following initial scans.
Initial scans on Chase Sexton’s right shoulder have been deemed inconclusive, but he says it ‘is pretty beat up’ after crashing out of the lead in Tuesday’s second round of Monster Energy Supercross.
It’s yet to be confirmed whether the Team Honda HRC rookie will miss this weekend and, potentially more, rounds, with additional evaluations scheduled for today. A further update is yet to be released.
Sexton was one of many riders that went down through the notorious sand section added for H2, impacting the ground heavily upon exit and being attended to by the crew from the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit. Examinations completed last night didn’t confirm the extent of any injuries.
“The day started off pretty good,” Sexton said. “I had pretty good practice qualifiers and was second in both of them. I got my first heat race win in my second race on a 450, which was good. In the main event, I got a good start and was really feeling good out front—in control and hitting my marks really well.
“I put a pretty good gap between myself and [Eli] Tomac but made a small mistake that cost me big, hit the ground pretty hard. I’m really sore and my right shoulder is pretty beat up. I hope to be back racing here soon and try to finish the job and get my first win.”
After qualifying quickest and finishing a lowly 14th on debut last weekend, Sexton managed to win his first heat race at H2 and was spectacularly fast in the 450SX main event prior to crashing out of the lead seven laps in. Supercross continues this Saturday for the third-straight round at NRG Stadium.
