Intriguing afternoon sessions as new Supercross season continues.
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo has qualified quickest in 450SX, as Dylan Ferrandis topped the 250SX West sessions at St. Louis’ second round of 2020 Monster Energy Supercross.
Cianciarulo continued his perfect run in practice and qualifying by topping each session this afternoon, eventually posting a 50.275s that was 0.741s faster than teammate Eli Tomac.
Behind the pair of factory Kawasakis came Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna), joined inside the top five by Ken Roczen (Team Honda HRC) and opening round winner Justin Barcia (Monster Energy Yamaha), who is debuting the red plate tonight.
Completing the top 10 in the premier category was Malcolm Stewart (SmarTop/Bullfrog Spas/MotoConcepts Honda), Zach Osborne (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna), Vince Friese (SmarTop/Bullfrog Spas/MotoConcepts Honda), Justin Hill (SmarTop/Bullfrog Spas/MotoConcepts Honda) and Dean Wilson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna).
It was another puzzling afternoon for reigning champion Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM), only managing 14th overall in combined qualifying with a lap-time of 52.365s – over two seconds outside of the lap set by Cianciarulo at the top.
In 250SX West it was defending champion Ferrandis who set the benchmark, his 51.002s a couple of tenths quicker than Monster Energy Star Yamaha teammate and red plate-holder Justin Cooper.
Two more riders broke into the 51s bracket, being Austin Forkner (Pro Circuit Monster Energy Kawasaki) and Christian Craig (Geico Honda), while 16-year-old rookie Jett Lawrence (Geico Honda) slotted into P5.
Times were tight between positions six through 10 all in the 52s, featuring Derek Drake (TLD Red Bull KTM), Mitchell Oldenburg (Penrite Honda Racing), Michael Mosiman (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna), Alex Martin (JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki) and Luke Clout (Penrite Honda).
