Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider Levi Kitchen’s 250SX West title prospects ended before they even really began at Anaheim 1 after sickness ruled him out of contention a single practice into the new season. Instead, he will now head east.

Kitchen – previously labeled a primary threat to western region title favorite Haiden Deegan – was absent from Friday’s pre-event press conference and didn’t ride during the afternoon sessions.

An attempt to line up on Saturday at the opening round of Monster Energy Supercross was short-lived, opting out before qualifying in a decision that will enable the 23-year-old to instead redirect his attention to the 250SX East championship that will commence in Tampa, Florida, on February 8.

“This was a collective decision between the team and me,” said Kitchen. “At the end of the day, I need to do what’s best for my future. See you all in Tampa in a few weeks.”

Kitchen’s transfer left Garrett Marchbanks as Pro Circuit’s lone entry at Anaheim 1, with Kitchen, Cameron McAdoo, Seth Hammaker and Ty Masterpool all committed to the eastern region. It’s unclear if back-up rider Drew Adams will get an opportunity to complete the west coast series.
