Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Max Anstie did not finish the second moto at Washougal after an off-track moment resulted in Anstie getting stuck in a fence. Once he was able to break free, he was over two laps down and decided it would be best to pull in.

The incident occurred when Anstie was in 10th position four laps into the race, and he made a small mistake. Anstie explained that he didn’t even crash but caught a fence in a weird spot resulting in him getting stuck.

“Qualifying went well, and I ended up sixth,” said Anstie. “In the first moto, the start wasn’t great, but I moved forward. I felt that the way I rode and the strength that I had in that moto was very good. I came through to fifth and was happy with that. In the second moto, I was in about 10th and not feeling too bad, and then I just went off the track in the wrong spot. It wasn’t even that bad. I thought I could get back on track, but I got completely stuck in the fence for two laps, and that was the end of that moto.

“It was a shame because I felt like, speed-wise, I was on track for a good couple of motos because I was really strong the first moto, but we live and learn. I’m here for this and to get all these things ironed out. I’m excited for the little break to get some work done and come back swinging in Unadilla.”

After a solid charge to P5 in the first moto, Anstie had worked his way forward again in the second moto in a short period of time. The 5-DNF result spoiled what likely would have been a near top five overall day as Anstie instead ended up in 13th overall.

Fortunately, Anstie was not injured in the incident and will look to build through the break to come out swinging again at Unadilla.
