A non-finish for Jason Anderson in Salt Lake City’s 15th round of Monster Energy Supercross could cost him fourth position in the 2020 series.

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider has been exceptional since the restart in Utah and passed Justin Barcia last weekend for position in the standings.

Anderson recorded a trio of top-five finishes including a podium over the first three races at Rice-Eccles Stadium, however, he was seventh last Wednesday and then exited the 450SX main event on Sunday following a pair of crashes.

Those incidents – the second one involving multiple riders including Vince Friese (Smartop Bullfrog Spas Honda) – ultimately ended his night, falling back behind Yamaha’s Barcia in the championship standings with two rounds to run.

“In the main event, I ripped a good start, went into the second corner in second and then it kind of turned into a crazy night,” 2018 Supercross championship winner Anderson commented.

“It sucks I wasn’t able to finish, but at the same time there’s a lot of positives to take away from how I was riding, my starts and stuff like that. I’m just going to look forward and try to prepare for the last two rounds and end on a good note.”

Entering the penultimate round of the Monster Energy Supercross championship this week, Anderson is now nine points in arrears of Barcia, who finished in ninth place tonight. The latter rebounded after exiting last Wednesday’s race.
