A tough break in latter stages of first full premier class campaign.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Christian Craig has detailed the extent of his injuries sustained in practice at Glendale, dislocating his hip and elbow, which was also fractured in the fall.
Craig, 31, was eighth in the 450SX standings entering round 12, claiming a best result of sixth in the Detroit main event in his first full premier class campaign. He also won a heat race in Seattle.
A crash in the whoops during practice at the final Triple Crown round has sidelined last year’s 250SX West champion, however, which will almost certainly end his Monster Energy Supercross season.
“Rough day in AZ,” Craig recalled. “Ended up going down early in first practice – dislocated hip and dislocated elbow. Was able to get them both put back in at hospital. My elbow is also broken, so will be getting surgery on that once the swelling goes down.
“Appreciate everyone that has reached out, including lots of the guys I race every weekend. And thanks to everyone who was at the hospital with me while Paige [Craig] hopped on a flight, as well as the mobile medical team for taking care of me. Unfortunately, this is part of the sport, and I’ll heal up to be ready ASAP.”
It’s been a difficult year for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna 450 team, with Malcolm Stewart injured early in the season and now Craig being injured and in recovery mode. It is unclear when either will return to action at this point.
