Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Ryan Dungey took ‘one step closer’ to the podium at High Point, holding onto third until the final stages of moto two where he scored the strongest result to date in his 2022 450MX comeback with P4.

The multi-time AMA champion impressed at Fox Raceway’s season opener – his first professional outing since 2017 – where he notched a pair of fifths.

Rounds two and three saw the KTM rider finish around the P6, P7 mark, and after scoring sixth in the first race at Mt. Morris he landed a popular holeshot in race two and fought with Ken Roczen down to the wire, just missing a spot on the podium.

“This week we made progress with the bike and it really translated to the weekend,” Dungey explained. “I didn’t get a great start in the first moto but I was happy that we made a lot of passes and came through the pack.

“I got off to that good start in moto two and it was so nice to just get clean air and run up there with the fast guys. A little slower start, got passed a little bit but got into the mix and it just felt good. The setup felt good, track felt good and it was nice to be up front and one step closer to the podium.”

Following the first four rounds of the 2022 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, Dungey is fifth in the points standings having completed each of the eight motos contested thus far inside the top seven.
