Defending 450SX champion Eli Tomac is looking to bounce back and close out the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season strong as the series heads to the final round at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.

While his title defense didn’t go to plan, the Monster Energy Kawasaki rider has managed to pick up eight podiums including three wins this season and sits firmly in third overall in the championship.

Following a win and a podium in Atlanta, Tomac was hopeful his return to the city where he won his first 450SX championship would be successful. He had plenty of speed to put himself in contention, mistakes led to an eventual 10th place finish.

“Man, I was feeling so good on the bike all day long and I’ve been looking forward to coming back to Salt Lake City,” Tomac explained. “I always enjoy riding here and felt confident heading into the main, especially after qualifying fastest and winning my heat race.

“Unfortunately, I made a few mistakes and ran out of time. I’m looking forward to coming back next weekend to finish out the season strong.”

His 10th at SLC 1 was just only his second finish of 10th or higher this season, having managed 11 top-fives in the 16 rounds so far. He’ll get one more shot to grab his fourth win of the season this Saturday, May 1 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
