Dual whoop lanes the difference-maker in 450SX main event.
450SX points leader Cooper Webb has conceded that the margin of victory should’ve been larger for title-rival Chase Sexton in East Rutherford, with dual whoop lanes a key separator for the duo on Saturday night.
Both Webb (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Sexton found each other from the outset of the main event at round 14, completing the opening lap occupying the top two positions and setting up for a showdown.
The battle was short-lived, however, with Sexton able to open up an advantage as high as 18 seconds over Webb, cruising to his fifth Monster Energy Supercross win of the season at a pivotal time of the year.
“I need to blitz whoops if I want to win,” recounted Webb. “That’s the bottom line, and I was trying, but just wasn’t able to do it. Tonight, there were ruts through the face of every single whoop, and it was genuinely impressive what Chase was able to do through there.
“I need to work on that, clearly. He would blow my doors off in the whoops, even though I felt everywhere else on the track we were on par – the two sets of whoops are what killed me tonight, and it probably should have been a bigger gap, if I am honest.”
Sexton slashed Webb’s lead atop the 450SX point-standings to nine with three rounds remaining, as Pittsburgh is set to host round 15 of season 2025 at Acrisure Stadium this weekend.
