Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Daxton Bennick has revealed the extent of his injuries sustained in an incident during the 250SX Showdown in Philadelphia, with a compression fracture to a vertebra in his back alongside a concussion drawing a premature end to his night.

Bennick qualified 12th for the showdown during qualifying before placing fifth in the eastern regional heat race, before a slow start in the main event saw him running in 16th place. It was then that a collision and subsequent fall during the opening rhythm lane drew the red flag for the encounter.

The 19-year-old was attended to by the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit, with a later diagnosis of a compression fracture of a vertebra and concussion being the extent of the injuries.

“[I’m] happy to be somewhat ok from the crash in Philly,” commented Bennick. “[I] got cross-jumped pretty hard after a bad start in the main – I was just trying to get through the pack. I did compression fracture [a] vertebrae in my back and was knocked out for a short amount of time.

“The team and I are going to start working on a plan to get my recovery going and to come back when I’m ready. I have a great group around me, and I want to say thanks to everyone reaching out.”

It’s a tough blow to Bennick’s sophomore 250SX season, with dual top fives at both Birmingham and Foxborough showing signs of a return to his early-season podium-contending form.

He currently sits eighth in the 250SX east class standings with three rounds remaining, however with an unclear timeline on his return, the team and Bennick may shift their sights towards the upcoming Pro Motocross season, which commences on May 24 at Fox Raceway.
