Deal extended to finish out Monster Energy Supercross 2025.
Quad Lock Honda rider Shane McElrath will complete Monster Energy Supercross with the team in 450SX, extending through the remainder of season 2025 after originally being penciled in until the mid-season.
After winning a second SX2 World Championship and clinching the Australian SX2 Championship upon teaming up with the Yarrive Konsky-led organization late last year, McElrath has been a standout in 450SX.
McElrath, 30, was an 11th-hour addition alongside Joey Savatgy at Quad Lock Honda in the premier class of American Superiors, confirmed only through the middle part of the 17-round series, which has since been extended for the entirety of the season. Savatgy, meanwhile, is currently sidelined after crashing out of Indianapolis.
“Shane and I will see out the Supercross season in America unless another factory opportunity arises,” Konsky told MotoOnline. “If that happens, we’ll discuss whether it’s worth making a change for just a few races. He is contracted to race SMX, and while he’s also contracted for World Supercross and Australian Supercross, the reality is he won’t be able to do both, so we will need to choose one, as I understand there will be scheduling conflicts.
“Shane and I communicate frequently, setting goals and making plans, and he continues to meet every target we set. He takes constructive criticism well, and we both agree he’s only just scratched the surface of his potential on a 450. As long as we’re aligned and working together towards our goals, we’re in a good place. Everyone knows I’m loyal, especially when I see something in someone – I believe in Shane.”
While McElrath will complete 450SX indoors, it’s understood he won’t be with the team – at least on a full-time basis – once the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) heads outdoors in May. He will be with the team come the playoffs to begin this September.
McElrath currently sits 10th in the championship standings as second of the non-factory team riders behind Team Tedders’ Justin Hill. He has three top 10 finishes to his credit in 2025, including a season-best eighth position in Birmingham last Saturday night.
The arising, yet to be confirmed conflicts between the World Supercross Championship (WSX) and Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX) schedules could prove troublesome for multiple internationals – including McElrath and Savatgy who contested both series last year – and the Quad Lock Honda effort, which has operations in both the US and Australia.
