Gate selection proved costly for Eli Tomac amid the rainfall of Anaheim 2, positioning him at the rear of the pack on the opening lap before he worked his way forward to an eventual seventh-place result.

Tomac had qualified in second position and comfortably won his heat race before the rain came, which severely impacted his start in the main event.

The two-time Monster Energy Supercross champion quickly went to work and broke the top 10 five laps into the race, before with five laps remaining, he passed teammate Cooper Webb for P7.

“So bummed on that start last night, felt great in the heat race and riding all day,” Tomac reflected. “That gate went from the best to worst in a matter of minutes with the rain hitting the hard pack outside of the rut. In hindsight I should of chosen a different gate, but it is what it is. Looking forward to giving it another go in Glendale.”

With 5-1-7 scores to commence the 2025 season, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Tomac lost control of the red plate at A2, now tied with defending champion Jett Lawrence (Honda HRC Progressive) for third in the standings and five points outside of Ken Roczen (Progressive Ecstar Suzuki) in the series lead.
