A bruising Unadilla round of Pro Motocross for Team Honda HRC’s 250MX program saw Jo Shimoda sustain a broken collarbone that will require surgery, and Chance Hymas was dealt a double DNF.

After finishing fourth in moto one, Shimoda will have his left collarbone plated in a bid to return to competition as soon as possible – the playoffs set to commence at the beginning of September.

“It felt great to be up front and battling for the lead, but unfortunately the battle didn’t end the way we wanted it to,” said Shimoda, who currently sits fourth in the standings.

“I ended up with a broken collarbone and I’ll have to get a plate put in. Obviously, that’s not how we wanted the day to go, but we’ll come back stronger once I’m healed.”

Hymas, meanwhile, was on a charge in the opening moto and led the way, until a violent crash ruled him out of contention. He attempted to line up in the second outing, but later withdrew from the weekend altogether, and is positioned fifth in the points following a breakout campaign.

“That’s not the way I thought my day was going to end,” Hymas recalled. “I’m a bit disappointed in myself because it was the best I’ve felt all year, but it just wasn’t my day.

“I’m sorry to the team for letting that one get away, but big thanks for sticking behind me through all the ups and downs. Luckily, I’m just bruised and beat up, but blessed to be walking away from that one.”
