First turn contact with Haiden Deegan led to a DNF at Spring Creek for Chance Hymas.
Team Honda HRC’s Chance Hymas has stated that nothing was broken in his leg due to contact with Haiden Deegan in the first corner of the second 250MX moto at Spring Creek. Though he did not finish the moto, Hymas is aiming at racing this coming weekend’s Washougal National.
Hymas entered the first corner to the outside of Deegan and when his front end started to slide, Hymas dabbed his foot on the ground. The recoil of his leg then got wrapped up in Deegan’s front wheel and caused Deegan and several other riders to crash in the first turn.
Amazingly, Hymas stayed up and made it a couple of turns in before pulling off the track and going straight to the Alpinestars medical truck. He reportedly couldn’t put weight on it at the time but has since stated that he hopes to be better for the next round of racing.
“In the second moto, I got my leg run over off the start, and that was the end of my race,” said Hymas. “Thankfully, nothing’s broken, but my leg is a balloon right now. We’ll get it looked at this week and try to get healed up for Washougal.”
The DNF dropped Hymas from second to fourth in the 250MX standings as he now sits 63 points behind Deegan atop the standings. If he can make it to the line at Washougal, he will have two weekends off after to continue healing as the series takes its’ final break in the schedule ahead of the final three rounds in August.
“We’ll do everything to make sure Chance is able to get his ankle as healed up as possible,” said Lars Lindstrom, Team Honda HRC team manager.
