For the second time this season, Red Bull KTM’s Chase Sexton picked up a sweep on the day as he won the RedBud National. The double moto victory also pushed Sexton into the lead of the championship as he goes from three points back to seven points up in the hunt for the title.

With Team Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence announcing he will miss the rest of the season this week after injuring his thumb, the title fight became a two horse race between Sexton and then points leader Hunter Lawrence. Hunter led nearly the whole first moto at RedBud before a big crash late in the race dropped him back to second. A bad start in the second moto left him with work to do as he got back to P4 in the end, but lost the red plate in the process.

Sexton’s Red Bull KTM teammate Aaron Plessinger ended up P2 overall on the day with 4-2 scores and the KTM sweep was the first in a while for the Austrian brand. Hunter Lawrence’s results did enough to earn him third overall on the day as he did well to salvage from the crash and bad start.

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson had a solid second moto as he finished up in third and compiled strong 5-3 scores on the day to get P4. Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Justin Cooper rounded out the top five as he would go 3-6. Both riders had one good start and one bad start, otherwise they showed the speed to perhaps land on the podium.

Inside of the top 10, it was Malcolm Stewart (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) in sixth, Garrett Marchbanks (Muc-Off ClubMX Yamaha) in seventh, Kyle Webster (MobileX Honda) in eighth, Harri Kullas (privateer) in ninth, and Christian Craig (Rockstar Husqvarna) in P10.

Sexton now holds a seven point lead over Hunter Lawrence moving into the final five rounds of the championship. Next up, the series heads to Spring Creek MX in Millville, Minnesota for the seventh round of the series in one weeks’ time.
