'We went back to base settings' - Craig

Strong P8 moto finish shows an improved return to form for Christian Craig.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Christian Craig had an up and down day at Southwick ending up P14 overall. However, a solid P8 in the second moto was Craig’s best moto finish of the 2024 season and Craig credited going back to his base setup as a catalyst for the result.

Through five rounds, Craig is just outside of the top 10 in points as he returns to form off yet another elbow surgery to repair an injury that stems back to a crash at the beginning of 2023. Craig raced the beginning of Monster Energy Supercross before bowing out six rounds in to get a fourth surgery on his elbow in hopes to get it back to full health.

He missed the rest of Supercross from there and has been slowly getting his feet back underneath him in Pro Motocross. Though the first moto at the fifth round in Southwick was a clear struggle, the second moto suggested signs of the old Christian Craig.

“Southwick was tough, just struggled with the setting on this track in the morning, and then went in the wrong direction for the first moto,” said Craig. “In the second moto, we went back to my base settings, got a better start, felt more comfortable, and it was an improvement. Today wasn’t great overall, but my second moto finish in P8 was the best of the year so far. That was better, but there was still some inconsistency, so we’ll move onto RedBud and try to keep building.

Craig has been able to slide back into the SuperMotocross World Championship Playoff picture as he now sits P15 overall on the season. So long as he makes the top 20, he will be locked into the playoffs despite missing 11 rounds of action this year.
