Jett Lawrence lands atop the podium again while splitting moto wins at Southwick.
For the third consecutive round, Team Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence claimed victory in AMA Pro Motocross as he won the Southwick National. A 1-2 performance on the day pulled Lawrence even with Red Bull KTM’s Chase Sexton for P2 in the standings while Hunter Lawrence retained the red plate.
Sexton was able to claim his third moto win of 2024 by winning the second moto, though his 3-1 scores were not enough to claim the overall. Both Lawrence brothers and Sexton each led the second moto at one point with Hunter Lawrence looking like he may run away with it before drifting back to P3. Sexton came from P3 late in the moto to surge around Hunter and eventually Jett to take off with the moto win and P2 overall on the day. Hunter rounded out the podium with 2-3 scores.
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Justin Cooper had another solid week of racing putting 5-6 scores together for fourth overall. He shared a spot in the top five with Phoenix Racing Honda’s Dylan Ferrandis who compiled 7-5 scores together for P5. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson and Red Bull KTM’s Aaron Plessinger each finished P4 in the motos, respectively, but had bad motos in the opposite causing them to miss the top five.
Plessinger would get P6 overall with 12-4 scores ahead of Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas’ Justin Barcia in seventh, Muc-Off FXR ClubMX Yamaha’s Phil Nicoletti in eighth, privateer Harri Kullas in ninth, and MobileX backed Fire Power Honda’s Kyle Webster rounding out the top 10.
With the mixed results for the three championship contenders on the day, Hunter Lawrence held onto the red plate. However, Jett Lawrence and Chase Sexton are just three points a piece behind Hunter in the standings as things continue to heat up heading to the mid-point of the championship.
