Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb is back on the bike this week for the first time since getting surgery to repair ligament damage in his thumb immediately following the conclusion of Monster Energy Supercross.

Webb damaged his thumb in a crash at the Birmingham round of Supercross and then made matters worse when he crashed with Jason Anderson at the 15^th round in Philadelphia. While still in the title fight for the 450SX crown, Webb toughed out the final two rounds, ultimately falling to Jett Lawrence. Immediately following the season, he went in for surgery to repair the damage.

Now he is back on the motorcycle this week as he tests the waters for the first time since the surgery.

“Today was my first day back riding,” said Webb. “I got cleared to ride the turn track and just finished that up. All good and everything feels good. I got it [thumb] out of the brace and got it moving. The stitches held up and everything is good. The plan for now is to do some turn track for a week or two and then take it from there. We’ll see where that puts us come the end of the outdoor season. I’ll keep you guys updated, but I’m happy and all smiles for my first day back.”

While no timetable was established by Webb himself, team manager Jeremy Coker has expressed intent to perhaps get Webb back racing before AMA Pro Motocross ends in late August if things progress well. The ultimate goal of course being to have Webb at 100% health and fitness for the beginning of the SuperMotocross World Championship Playoffs which start on September 7^th.
