In both 250 class motos at High Point, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan had a lot of work to do coming from deep in the field. He was able to come through and win the first moto and nearly did it again in the second before settling for P2 at the line behind Ty Masterpool.

Reflecting on his performances, Deegan believed that his riding was some of the best he’s ever done as he methodically clicked off passes while heading to the front of the pack.

“I could see where people were losing time and I had to ride my heart out,” said Deegan. “That was probably the fastest I’ve ridden a dirt bike in a long time, if not the fastest I’ve ever ridden. I mean, definitely a lot of the riders you can sometimes you get to a guy, and you know how they’re going to ride you, or know the guys that fade a little bit, or this guy would be a little more aggressive. So, you kind of pick and choose how to pass most of the guys.”

The first moto saw Deegan get a bad start when he and Team Honda HRC’s Chance Hymas came together going into the first corner. After Deegan won the moto, he spoke on the podium of the incident suggesting that he understood why Hymas would cut him off on the start but also stating that he had to show him he didn’t have a chance in that moto anyway. When asked about his comments, Deegan didn’t shy away from his thoughts on the matter.

“I like the controversy, that’s sweet,” said Deegan. “If I can after every race get the people talking, why not? Especially when you’re winning, you can back it up. It would be a different story if I couldn’t back up my talk. But since I can go out there and back it up most of the time, I feel like I kind of have the right to say what I want on the mic sometimes.”

Thanks to his come from behind 1-2 performance on the day, Deegan now leads the championship by 32 points after just four rounds of racing.
