A second win in a row for the Yamaha rider.
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan claimed the overall victory in the 250 class at Hangtown in dramatic fashion on Saturday after making several passes to win the first moto and then crashing spectacularly in the second moto, ultimately remounting to finish second. The result was Deegan’s second straight win to kick off AMA Pro Motocross in 2024.
Deegan’s wild crash in the second moto allowed Red Bull KTM’s Tom Vialle to scoot by and win the second moto, his first of the season. A 4-1 performance on the day gave the Frenchman second overall as he just nosed ahead of Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Levi Kitchen who went 3-3 for third.
Both motos of the 250 class at Hangtown featured battles throughout the field as Vialle was the one to charge forward in the second moto in similar fashion to what Deegan did in the first moto. Team Honda HRC’s Chance Hymas put strong 2-4 scores together but got the short end of the stick to end up fourth overall on the day.
Hymas led much of the first moto and was only passed by Deegan on the final three laps. His teammate Jo Shimoda had a stronger day as well going 7-5 for fifth overall while he continues to deal with a lingering ankle injury.
Behind them, it was Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas’ Pierce Brown in sixth, Triumph Racing’s Jalek Swoll in seventh, Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Ty Masterpool in eighth, Red Bull KTM’s Julien Beaumer in ninth, and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Casey Cochran rounding out the top 10.
Next up is the third round at Thunder Valley in Colorado where the 250 class always tends to see some mixed results due to the lack of power at elevation. Deegan leads the points by 13 over Kitchen and 16 over Vialle and the rest of the field looks to turn the tides on the Yamaha rider.
