Strong top five to kick off AMA Pro Motocross for the Team Honda HRC rider.
Team Honda HRC’s Chance Hymas collected a career best fourth place finish at the opening round of AMA Pro Motocross over the weekend. His 3-4 finishes tied him with Tom Vialle on the day as he battled in the top five from the gate drop of both motos.
Hymas dealt with a torn ACL all throughout Supercross which hindered his performance, but he did build into some consistent top 10 finishes by the end of the season. On Friday, Hymas told MotoOnline that he felt back to 100% health and was excited to see where he fit in. As it turns out, he fits in right at the front.
“Honestly, I’m really satisfied,” said Hymas. “That’s the best I’ve felt and the best I’ve done at a pro National so far. Honestly, that’s the best race I’ve done in my pro career. It was a big building step for me. Coming into the season, I feel like this is kind of what I expected of myself. My biggest goal for this weekend was just to get fifth place overall. I felt like if I executed qualifying and just started up front that I could do it. Obviously qualifying first in the first practice and then fourth overall and being within a second, that’s the best qualifying I’ve done all year and with the four rounds I did last year. I feel like I started off where I left off at High Point and running up front. Honestly, I surprised myself a little bit, but I knew deep down that I could do it. A lot of momentum going into next weekend for sure.”
Before Hymas went out with a separate torn ACL injury after the 2023 High Point National, he had just finished P5 and P6 overall in back-to-back races. Now he starts off 2024 with an even better result. Due to the injury, Hymas now only has six career starts in the 250 class of AMA Pro Motocross and now he will turn his attention to building towards a podium finish as he continues to learn throughout the season.
