Chance is there that Star Racing Yamaha rider races on in 2024.
‘More racing’ in the future has been hinted at by Eli Tomac as the multi-time Monster Energy Supercross and Pro Motocross champion surfaced during yesterday’s Alpinestars MX24 launch post-race at Washougal.
Tomac ruptured his achilles tendon at the penultimate round of the 450SX season in Denver, forcing him out of title contention and to the sidelines, with his future unclear at that point.
What’s next for the 30-year-old has been a major topic since, whether he would return for another term at Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, or if he would ultimately call time on his career. It now appears that the latter is a genuine option, focused on regaining 100 percent fitness.
“I’ve just been working on physical therapy, getting this achilles back to what I think is going to be 100 percent,” Tomac explained. “So far, it is going really well – I’d say I’m a few weeks ahead of protocol. For me, it’s been a great recovery so far and I think there is more racing in my future.”
It’s approaching three months since Tomac sustained the injury in Colorado and, while at first he opted not to watch his competitors lining up in his absence, the motivation to heal and come back stronger has built. He’s yet to return to riding himself.
“You go through these stages… anger, depression, and then you get motivated to want to heal and come back and be better,” he added. “Those were the stages I went through and I know I have been watching more of the racing, watching Jett [Lawrence] absolutely dominate – it’s an impressive thing to see. Always trying to study, always trying to learn, no matter what.”
