Honda duo only riders to dip under 44s in timed qualifying.
The speed of Team Honda HRC riders was again not to be overcome during qualifying for the penultimate 2023 Monster Energy Supercross round in Denver as Jett Lawrence and Chase Sexton stood alone with 43s lap times entering the night program.
Taking the track for his third time of the day, Sexton turned a 43.968s lap to set the high mark in the premier 450SX class at Empower Field at Mile High.
That lap put Sexton 0.41s clear of fellow Clermont, Florida resident Ken Roczen (Progressive Insurance Ecstar Suzuki).
Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing), Adam Cianciarulo (Monster Energy Kawasaki), and Dean Wilson (Fire Power Honda) found the final three spots in the top five, followed by Justin Hill (Team Tedder Monster Energy Mountain Motorsports, Colt Nichols (Team Honda HRC), Kyle Chisholm (Twisted Tea Suzuki Progressive Insurance), Josh Hill (Team Tedder Monster Energy Mountain Motorsports), and Anthony Rodriguez (Smartop MotoConcepts Honda Racing) in the top 10.
In the small-bike category, a blisteringly quick 43.893s from Lawrence put his No. 18 Honda CRF250R atop the running order for the second and final round of 250SX West qualifying in Colorado.
RJ Hampshire (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) came closest to Lawrence’s pace with a best lap 0.837s slower than the young Australian’s.
Enzo Lopes (Muc-Off FXR ClubMX Yamaha) followed his chart-topping performance from Q1 with the third-fastest Q2 lap. Max Vohland (Red Bull KTM) and Mitchell Oldenburg (Smartop MotoConcepts Racing Honda) completed the top five while Levi Kitchen (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing), Carson Mumford (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki), Derek Kelley (AEO Powersports KTM Racing), Hunter Yoder (Partzilla PRMX Racing) and Colt Thompson (Team Solitaire Heartbeat Hot Sauce Yamaha) turned in the rest of the top-10 fastest laps.
