Three riders directly in the race for the 2023 450SX championship.
The 2023 Monster Energy Supercross Championship has well and truly taken its shape as three riders have stormed ahead and separated themselves from the pack. In this edition of Input, red plate-holder and defending champion Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing), Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) and Chase Sexton (Team Honda HRC) speak about the battle that has emerged in the fight for 450SX supremacy.
Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing):
It’s going to be interesting, I mean have we ever seen three guys this close seven rounds in? Obviously we’ve been setting ourselves apart so it’s cool to see, but the pressure is on at the same time.
Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM):
It’s tough with all of us being so close and we’re going fast, so you have that little bit of risk and you also don’t want to make mistakes, it’s still early and now as you can see there’s definitely a pattern, so we’ll just keep fighting for race wins. It’s crazy, I think racing in the moment, you think about the points and who you have to beat, then we’ve got all the other guys that are out there trying to win to, that’s Supercross and I think for the fans it’s great. It’s real close between us three and we all have our own perks.
Chase Sexton (Team Honda HRC):
It’s really enjoyable racing these two. Obviously I had the chance to race Eli through the summer and battle with him and now having Cooper in Supercross. They’re both definitely no slouches, they’re great at what they do, and for me, I definitely feel like I’m riding good, but I have a few things to learn. I’m just trying to get better every weekend and the mistakes we’ve made, I think it’s just because we want to win so bad. We’ve got everything we need to do it, so that’s how I feel and like I said earlier, I’m going to keep swinging until I can stick one.
