Double MX2 victory for Vialle sees 2022 red plate change hands.
Monster Energy Yamaha MXGP’s Maxime Renaux delivered a clinical display at the MXGP of Spain to clean sweep the premier class, as the MX2 red plate changed hands with Tom Vialle’s commanding 1-1 scorecard.
Renaux took the round nine victory – his maiden MXGP overall – ahead of teammate Glenn Coldenhoff, the number 259 enjoying a strong P2 in the second race to elevate him to the runner up position following fifth in race one.
Standing Construct Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Brian Bogers delivered a relatively consistent day to land third with 3-4 results, ahead of Tim Gajser (Team HRC) who recovered from a high-speed crash in the Qualifying race to finish P4 in Spain with a 2-6 scorecard.
Jorge Prado (Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing) completed the top five, finishing third in race one after leading the opening laps, later crossing the line 11th in moto two.
Gajser remains at the forefront of the 2022 MXGP World Championship standings, 66 points ahead of Renaux who in turn holds a 46 point advantage over teammate Jeremy Seewer.
Vialle’s (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) double victory in MX2 sees him take control of the points lead, finishing ahead of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Simon Laengenfelder and championship rival Jago Geerts (Monster Energy Yamaha MX2).
Laegenfelder’s consistent 2-3 scorecard was enough to land him P2 for the round, as a challenging day for Geerts saw him cross the line ninth in the first race before recovering from an early fall in moto two to finish second, 9-3 results seeing him third overall in Spain.
Just 10 points separate Vialle and Geerts at the top of the championship as Laegenfelder is third, 95 points from the red plate.
The fourth round of the MXW World Championship took place in Spain, as Courtney Duncan (Kawasaki) returned to the top step with 1-2 results in what was a stellar comeback.
Daniela Guillen (KTM) delivered a standout performance in race two to secure the victory but was unable to capture the overall as she finished third in race one, still notching a solid P2 for the round.
Nancy Van De Ven extended her advantage at the front of the championship with a 2-3 scorecard landing her P3 for the round and providing her with a 25 point lead over Lynn Vlk (Yamaha).
