Justin Barcia has been docked 10 points and fined following that move made on Malcolm Stewart in the 450SX main event at Salt Lake City, the Troy Lee Designs Red Bull GasGas rider ultimately demoted to fifth in the 2022 Monster Energy Supercross standings.

Barcia entered the final round engaged in a three-rider fight for the third in the 450SX Championship, just four points from Stewart in P3.

During the main event at Rice-Eccles Stadium, Stewart made a move past the number 51 for third at half-race distance, and in an attempt to regain the position Barcia collided with the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna contender, forcing him to fall spectacularly.

The MC 450F rider was fourth in the 450SX standings before the penalty was applied, and provided a response to the incident post-race.

“We’re racing for a championship, third in points, I was doing everything I could,” Barcia explained. “Obviously, it was an aggressive pass, I’m gonna own that, what do I say? I’m out there racing for this championship, that’s what I wanted, third. I was going for it, I would like to think he would do the same thing, maybe not.

“I’m sorry guys but I’m here racing for a living. This is what I do. You can bring the boos but love it or hate it but this is me. Since day one.”
