Championship run out of reach suggests Martin

Despite back-to-back overall victories in 250MX, Jeremy Martin says he’s not paying attention to the championship standings as he’s now over 60 points behind the leader.

Martin has been returned to the top of the class with incredible form following an early-season injury sustained in a crash at Thunder Valley.

Now having won three of the last four motos, the Monster Energy Star Racing rider says that despite his recent run, the championship is a long way out as he now focuses on grabbing as many wins as possible in 2021.

“Obviously winning championships is something that when we sign with a manufacturer that’s the goal right,” Martin explained. “I’ve been fortunate enough to win two of them in my career so far and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to win it.

“But I’ve been through the wringer obviously this year, and in the last couple years with just injury and stuff, so for me, yeah if I could win it great, but I’m out here fighting.

“You know I got hurt and I was able to kind of turn the ship around pretty quick and get back up to that level of speed. Sometimes it doesn’t line up and you know if I can get some more overalls and some more wins, to me that’s a heck of a deal just for myself facing the adversity and everything.”

While it’s not mathematically out of reach to take home his third championship, Martin is currently fourth in the standings, 61 points back from teammate and red-plate holder Justin Cooper.

“I’m still 61 points down, that’s pretty big,” he continued. “I know Trey [Canard] did the run on [Christophe] Pourcel 11 years ago, that was a crazy deal or whatever.

“But yeah, when I line up I just think about wanting to win on my dirtbike, have fun and live in the moment of when you’re on the line and you’ve got the butterflies in your stomach and you’re like man can I get this done? That’s mainly what I’m thinking about.”

Martin will have three weeks until the next race to continue recovering and getting seat time ahead of round eight at Unadilla.
