Millville winner talks injury recovery following hometown sweep.
Following his 1-1 sweep of the sixth round of Pro Motocross at Spring Creek, Jeremy Martin confirmed he’s expecting to remain in the 250 class for 2022 despite comments earlier in the year that he was planning a premier class move next season.
Martin was adamant at the start of the year that his plan was to move to the 450 class in 2022, since then, however, Martin has been mired by injury.
Out for the entirety of the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season with multiple injuries sustained in the opening lap of the season, Martin also missed a round of Pro Motocross following a crash in moto two at Thunder Valley.
The Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha rider rebounded for his first win of the season over the weekend at Spring Creek, later confirming that his plan is to stay in the 250 class next season.
“I made some comments in the beginning of the year obviously that this would be my last 250 year, but I didn’t even feel like I got a fighting chance yet this year honestly,” Martin explained. “You know I’ll take it on the chin, I’ll get a lot more comments but I’ll probably be 250 again next year and go from there.”
On the heels of a 13th overall at Southwick, Martin admitted he’d have been happy with an overall podium at the track owned and operated by his family.
“Man honestly if I would have got a moto win and an overall podium spot today I would have been stoked,” he continued. “I mean last week after Southwick I rode on Tuesday, I did a 30-minute moto and I was pretty happy.
“I made it about 20 minutes in and I kind of faded and was kind of struggling. Then obviously the hand was kind of hurting me, but I finished out the day. I rode a little bit on Thursday and then I was just ready to go for the hometown race.”
“I’m able to start riding a little bit more which is really nice to find the edge and get the groove, these guys are so fast out there, so just getting that seat time in has definitely helped me.
“I’m also not trying to ride too much because my wrist obviously does kind of bother me. The hand is definitely better, still a little bit painful but yeah, just stoked to get a 1-1 at the hometown race is a really special deal.”
