The field is set for round six of the season in Millville.
Round six of the 2021 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is underway from Millville and it was Ken Roczen topping the 450MX timesheets, as Justin Cooper put himself atop the 250MX class.
It was Ken Roczen (Team Honda HRC) grabbing the fastest lap of the day with a 2:07.124s lap in the closing stages of the final qualifying session of the day for the 450s. Roczen was fastest in both sessions and looks to close the points gap on title rival Dylan Ferrandis (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) today.
His teammate Chase Sexton was just a half-second back in second place. The second-year premier class rider has struggled a bit so far this season, he’ll be hoping to find the podium for the first time in 2021 at Spring Creek today.
Adam Cianciarulo (Monster Energy Kawasaki) rounded out the top three on the timesheets, as he continues to deal with nerve issues in his right arm that have caused him to struggle late in the motos so far this season.
Points leader Ferrandis was the first rider in the 2m08s range in fourth. Ferrandis has yet to miss a podium this season and currently leads the championship by 19.
Moto two winner from the previous two rounds Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki) was fifth. Tomac has been better as the track gets rougher this season and with the 450s going first in the schedule today, it will be interesting to see how he does on a smoother surface.
Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM) had one of his better qualifying efforts of the season in sixth as the first rider in the 2m09s range. with Joey Savatgy (Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM) who continues to improve as the season wears on behind him in seventh.
Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha rider Christian Craig managed eighth with a 2:10.008s lap as the final two spots in the top 10 went to Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) in ninth and Aaron Plessinger (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) in 10th.
Qualifying in the 250MX class was topped by none other than Justin Cooper (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha Rider) who has proven to be solid in qualifying all season long. His 2:09.099s lap that he logged in the last lap of the second session put him atop the timesheets.
Red-plate holder Jett Lawrence (Team Honda HRC) had a strong morning, clocking a heap of laps in the 2m09s range as he looks to regain some points after a rough day at Southwick last round.
The man who’s been arguably the fastest rider in the last few rounds RJ Hampshire (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) was third this morning. Hampshire has had the speed but crashes in both motos in the previous two rounds have held him back from scoring points.
Michael Mosiman (TLD Red Bull GasGas) was fourth as he looks to build some momentum this weekend after a tough start to the season.
Hometown rider Jeremy Martin (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) was the first rider in the 2m11s range. Martin continues to return from multiple injuries he’s been dealing with throughout the season, he’ll look to do well today at the track owned and operated by his family.
After taking the first overall podium of his career last weekend, Jo Shimoda found himself sixth in qualifying ahead of last week’s winner Hunter Lawrence (Team Honda HRC) on the heels of his 1-1 sweep at Southwick.
The first rider in the 2m12s range was rookie Max Vohland (Red Bull KTM). Vohland came out hot in the opening round, leading both motos at one point, but has yet to find the front since.
The final two spots in the top 10 went to 250SX East champion Colt Nichols (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) and Austin Forkner (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki).
