Southwick qualifying led by Cianciarulo and Hampshire

The field is set for round five of the Pro Motocross season.

After a morning of qualifying the field is set for round five of the 2021 Pro Motocross season, with Adam Cianciarulo atop the 450 class and RJ Hampshire heading the 250 class.

With the track shaping up nicely after over five inches of rain through the week, Cianciarulo topped the 450 timesheets with a 2:12.659s lap.

Team Honda HRC’s Ken Roczen took second just under half a second back as he looks to rebound from a fourth overall at RedBud, now just 14 points back from Dylan Ferrandis in the championship standings.

Roczen’s teammate Chase Sexton was third. Sexton searching for a return to the podium in the sands of Southwick this weekend after a tough go in the last few rounds.

Points leader Ferrandis was fourth and the first rider in the 2m14 second range. Ferrandis has yet to finish off the podium in a moto and has been inside the top 2 overall in his rookie season.

Despite a heavy slam at the end of the second session, Christian Craig (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) finished fifth overall. Craig took a pair of fifths last weekend for fifth overall, his first top-five of the season.

Reigning 450SX champion Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) was sixth. Webb still looking for his first top-five of the season as he continues to struggle with settings aboard his KTM 450.

Joey Savatgy continued his solid form to start the day in Massachusetts, the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM rider was the first rider in the 2m15s range for seventh overall.

Justin Barcia was eighth on the day as he continues to come to grips with his TLD Red Bull GasGas MC450 outdoors.

Rounding out the top 10 was podium finisher from last week, Aaron Plessinger (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) and Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin, both riders in the 2m17s range.

It was a Rockstar Energy Husqvarna sweep of the first two positions in the 250 class with last week’s overall winner Hampshire leading the way with a 2:15.914s lap.

Stilez Robertson clocked a 2:15.964s lap for second place as he searches for his first podium of the season with Hunter Lawrence (Team Honda HRC) in third well over a second back with a 2:17.108s lap.

Jalek Swoll (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) was running third behind his teammates before eventually ending up in fourth late in the session. Swoll took 10th at RedBud and looks to return to the top five after winning the overall at High Point.

After circulating deep in the field for much of the second session, Justin Cooper (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) managed a solid lap and rounded out the top five.

Michael Mosiman (TLD Red Bull GasGas) was sixth as the first rider in the 2m18s range. Mosiman is looking to rebound after a tough return to action last week, though his fitness and pace were solid at RedBud.

Jeremy Martin ended up seventh, the Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha rider is looking to better his fifth overall in return to the series last weekend, still healing a broken Scaphoid in his wrist.

Points leader and last week’s third place finisher Jett Lawrence ended the sessions in eighth place with a time of 2:18.894s.

Rounding out the top 10 was Nate Thrasher (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) in ninth and series rookie Max Vohland (Red Bull KTM) in 10th.
