Monster Energy Kawasaki rider admits struggle following 10th overall.
Four-time Pro Motocross champion Eli Tomac spoke about his struggles at the first two rounds of the 2021 outdoor season following his 10th place overall at Thunder Valley.
Shortly after the end of the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season, it was announced that Tomac and the Monster Energy Kawasaki team would part ways at the end of the season.
The goal was still to win races ahead of his final season with Team Green, but he’s only been able to notch ninth and 10th overall in the opening rounds.
With high expectations ahead of his home round in Colorado last weekend, Tomac admitted he’s having troubles after tallying 11-10 scores on the day at Thunder Valley.
“Today didn’t really go the way I expected it to,” Tomac explained. “This is my hometown race and I really wanted to give the local fans something to cheer about, but I’m having some trouble finding my rhythm right now.”
Despite the tough start to the season, Tomac says his fitness and bike are not an issue, as he looks to recover in the upcoming two-week break from racing before the series returns at High Point on 19 June.
“My fitness is where it needs to be, and I feel comfortable on my KX450,” he continued. “It’s only a matter of time before I start finding my rhythm again and battling at the front of the pack.
“This next weekend off is going to be all about rest and recovery as we prepare to come back swinging for the next round.”
