A strong performance in Lucas Oil Pro Motocross this season is unlikely have any impact on the future of Marvin Musquin, who indicated today that he’s in the final stages of renewing with KTM into 2022.

Musquin has confirmed that he’s set to stay with the Austrian-based KTM Group in a deal that is tipped to see him remain in orange at Red Bull KTM Factory Racing for at least one more year.

“We have already started talking about next year, talking with Austria and KTM, so finalizing the last details for next year,” the 31-year-old Frenchman confirmed. “This season doesn’t change anything, but at the same time I just want to go out there and try my best to win races and podiums – do the best for myself, my sponsors and team.”

The twist only comes when it’s considered that Aaron Plessinger is also expected to join Red Bull KTM in a switch from Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha, which would effectively mean the factory operation expands to four riders in 2022. Current 450SX champion Cooper Webb’s contract continues through next year.

It would mark a significantly increased commitment from Red Bull KTM moving forward, also fielding Max Vohland in the 250 class, however, it’s unclear whether or not the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna premier class program will remain at three riders.

Former Supercross champion Jason Anderson is believed to be on the move to Monster Energy Kawasaki in place of Yamaha-bound Eli Tomac as he in turn replaces Plessinger, while 450MX number one Zach Osborne has re-signed at Husqvarna. It’s yet to be revealed whether or not TLD Red Bull GasGas will expand to have a teammate alongside Justin Barcia in the 450 ranks.
