Eight-time GNCC champion Kailub Russell’s dream of racing Pro Motocross that was set to kick off at the opening round of the 2021 championship has been delayed following a crash at Fox Raceway resulted in a host of injuries.

It was announced just weeks ago that Russell would be lining up for the 2021 Pro Motocross championship in the 250MX class for the Red Bull KTM team alongside their rookie Max Vohland.

Unfortunately, the off-road legend crashed hard during a test last week at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, resulting in multiple injuries.

“We had just found a good setting, I was comfortable with,” Russell explained. “and working into trying to pick up the pace. I lost the front end just before this big roller and my clutch hand came off the bike and I whiskey throttled clear into the fence.

“I was unconscious until the ambulance arrived, was diagnosed with 3 broken ribs and a broken jaw. Which is wired shut now.”

Now on the road to recovery, Russell is unsure when he’ll be back in action, but is looking forward to lining up this summer.

“I’m not sure where this leaves me to be ready to race this summer. Definitely going to be tough to make it to the first couple of rounds. But damn it, this will only make it that much sweeter!”
