Looking to recover ahead of 250SX East return in SLC.
After a chaotic crash in the Atlanta 2 450SX main event, Muc-Off Honda’s fill-in 450 rider Mitchell Oldenburg will be forced to miss round 15 of the Monster Energy Supercross series tomorrow in Atlanta.
With their primary 450 rider Justin Brayton sidelined, the Muc-Off Honda team’s 250SX East rider had been called up to fill in for quite a few rounds in the latter half of the 2021 championship.
After gaining comfort as the rounds wore on, eventually finishing a career-best of 13th in round 13, Oldenburg’s season now will come to a halt after a crash on Tuesday that he later detailed.
“I am totally bummed about this,” Oldenburg explained, “as the crash was out of my control. I got hit on the left by one rider and jumped on by another, it was total chaos. I have torn my hand up and broken a finger and the swelling alone makes it impossible for me to grip my handlebars.”
Despite the crash, Oldenburg was happy with his progress and actively hitting targets set by himself and the team. He now will look to recover and return to finish out the 250SX East campaign in Salt Lake City.
“I was feeling more and more comfortable on the CRF450R,” he continued, “and the team and I were achieving the goals we set. The 13th in round 13 was a highlight for me. I hope I can recover in time for the final two rounds in Salt Lake, we will see how my recovery goes.”
