Championship lead dwindles to 13 points ahead of Atlanta 3.
450SX points leader Cooper Webb salvaged a sixth-place finish after a collision with Justin Barcia saw him hit the ground late in the Atlanta 2 Supercross main event.
Webb came into the second of three races at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Tuesday with a 22-point lead over Ken Roczen, on the heels of his third-place finish on Saturday.
After expressing that he ‘rode like crap’ at round 13, he lined up for the final ‘Super Tuesday’ of the season looking to bounce back with a win, but his struggles unfortunately continued.
“It was a bit of a rough day for us,” Webb explained. “In the Main Event, I got a great start and put myself where I needed to be but I didn’t execute.”
Midway through the race, it looked as though he was going to make a charge toward the podium, but an incident with TLD Red Bull GasGas rider Justin Barcia eventually put an end to his podium chances.
“I finally turned it around, started riding well and hitting my marks a bit and then I caught Barcia and was trying to make a pass. We had some close calls and then over the wall, I hit his back tire and fell.
“It’s a bummer but we’ll come back for Atlanta 3 and work with the team and myself to hopefully be in the winner’s circle.”
Webb’s advantage is now just 13 points as his title rival Ken Roczen was able to grab the win. With just three races left in the series, the action will continue this Saturday in Atlanta before the series moves to Salt Lake City for the final rounds.
