With just six laps of practice before racing got underway at the Atlanta 1 Supercross, fourth-place finisher in the 450SX class Jason Anderson suggests the track layout might have been a bit too long.

After rain hit Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday, racing officials were forced to cancel the final qualifying sessions in an effort to preserve the track for racing.

An already abbreviated schedule due to the threat of rain meant that riders had just one session to get the track sorted before the racing kicked off.

While in the end, he managed a top-five finish, the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider says that figuring out the track, which was nearly twice as long as any they’ve raced this season, was a bit difficult to figure out.

“When I went out for practice I was kind of nervous,” Anderson explained, “because the track was really long and we weren’t going to get that many laps. I felt like I was going to almost forget what section I was on because of how long it was. When I did the track walk I still couldn’t even really tell you what section was what until I got out there.

“So for the first practices, I was really paying attention to the broadcast for practice so I could remember, basically remember the track and watch those guys and see what they’re doing so I could get a little bit ahead.”

Able to get the track dialed in to notched his second consecutive top-five, continued to say that while the track might have long, it ended up being favorable.

“I think the track was really cool,” he continued. “It was something unique for us. But like for practice and getting ready, and even the main, it almost felt like maybe it was a bit too long at some point, for a supercross race.

“But it was still cool and obviously, I enjoyed it. I think it’s definitely a unique venue but I think they did a pretty good job. Honestly, I think the rain helped the track slow down a little bit because I think it would have been pretty high speed if it didn’t rain.”

With one podium to his credit this year, Anderson will get another shot at the podium tomorrow for the second of three Monster Energy Supercross races at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
