Round 11 of the FIM World Supercross Championship was full of ups and downs for the Muc-Off Honda Racing team.
The team’s 250cc rider, Mitchell Harrison achieved a personal best while 450cc rider Justin Brayton took a massive blow when a mechanical problem caused the veteran to crash.
Brayton’s day was looking positive until a crash in his heat race took him out for the evening.
“The bike locked up in the air, it’s unfortunate but it happens. My hands are busted up and I am focused on my recovery now,” said Brayton.
Team mechanics diagnosed the problem and Muc-Off Honda Racing director Yarrive Konsky is thankful the situation wasn’t worse.
“A modified part broke and it’s devastating to see your rider side-lined because of it. I am grateful that he is okay and I am sorry to everyone involved. Oldenburg will now step in for this weekend” Konsky said.
On the other side of a rough night for Brayton, Mitchell Harrison had the ride of his life; qualifying well and heading straight to the main from his heat race.
“My day went really well and I felt great. We made very few adjustments throughout the day and it paid off.” Harrison said.
In the main event Harrison got the holeshot and took off, he led the main event for almost six laps and stayed within the top three until lap nine. By the end of the race he slipped back to 6th which is his personal best finish in Supercross.
“I am so excited, to lead the race was amazing. I tightened up a little and made a few small mistakes but overall, this is a massive step forward for me and the team and I am really looking forward to this weekend.” Finished Harrison.
Oldenburg will compete in place of the injured Brayton and hopes his previous 450 experience will help with his results.
“I am guttered for my team mate and no one likes to see anyone injured, it’s a brutal sport. I will just line up and do my best again” said Oldenburg.
