The Phoenix Racing Honda rider is feeling better than ever.
After going 20-for-20 to take the 2021 Kicker Arenacross championship, Kyle Peters has now returned to the Supercross podium after taking third at Arlington 2.
In his 10th year of racing in the professional ranks, Peters feels he’s better now than he’s ever been, both physically and mentally, as he works toward his goal of consistent podiums and becoming a championship contender.
Ahead of his breakout ride on Tuesday, Peter’s return to the 250SX class in 2021 saw him finish seventh at Orlando 2 and 12th at Arlington 1.
“It took me a lot of years to figure out this whole supercross thing,” Peters explained, “between injuries and not having the confidence to believe in myself, I just struggled for a lot of years.”
“Now I feel like I’m better than I’ve ever been. Fitness-wise, mentally, on the bike fitness-wise and I truly believe in myself. I’ve been working with a mental coach and that’s one of the biggest things, is staying in the moment, executing and having the confidence to know I should be on the podium.”
“I’ve put in the work, we’ve put in the time and the team has given me a good enough bike to go out and do that.”
The team itself, Phoenix Racing Honda, has expanded its presence in Supercross after being the dominant force in Arenacross over the last few seasons. Peter’s elaborated on his confidence in the bike in the post-race press conference on Tuesday.
“Our bikes are right there,” he said, “they may not be that one or two percent, [better] but ultimately it’s good enough for me to be on the podium and get a win.”
Peters will have another chance to podium in Arlington this weekend, as the series returns to action inside AT&T Stadium.
