Breakout second-place finish inspiring the young rookie.
Stilez Robertson took his first 250SX class podium in just his second Supercross at Daytona, but the rookie isn’t settling and aims to improve as the series moves to Dallas.
After a disappointing Supercross debut in Orlando that saw him on the ground in the opening stages of the race, the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider was hungry to get a complete race under his belt as he lined up for round two of the 2021 Monster Energy Supercross season in Daytona.
When the gate dropped, Robertson got the holeshot and got out front early, leading more than half of the 250SX West race. After eventually being passed by Cameron McAdoo (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki), Robertson held on for a second-place finish, the first podium of his young career.
“After last weekend I kind of went back to the drawing board,” Robertson explained. “I was a little down in the dumps but I knew I didn’t really get a fair shot at it. Coming into this week we got a really good prep at the Baker’s Factory and honestly all day I was getting better and better.”
“Right before the main I made the decision to put the knobby back on and it paid off. Got the start and honestly when I got out front I didn’t know any better, so I just started putting in my laps. Then it set in, halfway and I was like ‘wow, I’m leading Daytona right now.”
“I didn’t really get tired or tighten up in the arms, it was more so just mental really. McAdoo got around me and I knew he had good speed so I just wanted to salvage it and bring it home on the podium.”
While excited about the podium, Robertson feels he’s just getting a chance to show what he’s capable of after a solid offseason and is looking to continue improving as he begins to find his footing in the pro ranks.
” I believe in my ability and I feel like I’ve had pretty good speed this offseason. Honestly, my rookie year, I’m just trying to build every race. So we’ll go from here and show up to Arlington and try to get better every race. I’ll take this one and hopefully, we can get one step better, but if not we just want to be better every time we get out on the track.”
The 2021 Monster Energy Supercross championship now moves on to Dallas for a trio of rounds inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington starting this Saturday, 13 March.
