The general checks off first race of mixed discipline 2021 schedule.
Ryan Sipes had a mixed outing in his debut on the TLD Red Bull GasGas team at the Daytona supercross, the first race of his 2021 schedule that spans multiple two-wheel disciplines.
The 36-year-old is known by most for his long career as a supercross and motocross rider which started in 2004, but over the last two years, Sipes has embarked on a new journey, to race everything and have fun doing it.
2021 is going to be much of the same for the two-wheel journeyman, a lengthy schedule that will see him race everything from off-road and flat track to supercross and motocross, only this year aboard a TLD Red Bull GasGas.
The famed Daytona International Speedway was the first outing on the schedule, and ffter getting off to a good start in the heat race, Sipes managed to pick up a hand injury in a racing incident.
“My hand was pretty sore,” Sipes explained, “but adrenaline kicked in and I was able to mix it up with those guys for a little while in the heat race, so that felt cool.”
Eventually ending up with 21st place in the main, he escaped the race with no serious injury and plans to return to the Monster Energy Supercross series for two races in Atlanta on 10 and 13 April.
“The adrenaline wasn’t quite there in the main, and I had a lot more swelling, so I was having a hard time hanging on. I went and got X-rayed and no broken bones, just some bruising, so we’ll go back and recoup to be back for Atlanta.”
